This heinous slaughter at the church in Charleston underscores the question from the Prophet Jeremiah: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” The whole world is reeling from the evil done. Fortunately, God answers the question that all of us have asked about the human heart. “I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” (Jeremiah 17:9-10).
Maybe, just maybe our country’s leaders will wake up to the reality of evil and start sentencing the perpetrators rather than finding excuses for them. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” (Ecclesiastes 8:11)
