The Apostasy of Rachel Held Evans

"I felt drawn to the Episcopal church because it offered some practices I felt were missing in my evangelical experience, like space for silence and reflection, a focus on Christ’s presence at the communion table as the climax and center of every worship service, opportunities for women in leadership, and the inclusion of LGBT people."

~RNS report on Rachel Held Evans' full apostasy

As I said the other day, what you believe about the Beginning will affect how you believe about the rest of Scripture. Apostasize from the Truth of Creation Week, and you WILL apostasize in other areas. "Hath God Said?" is the satanic attack upon God Himself.
"In September 2008, Evans signed with Zondervan for her first book, Evolving in Monkey Town.[5] The book explores her journey from religious certainty to a faith which accepts doubt and questioning; the title is based on the Scopes Monkey Trial that occurred in Dayton."

Feminism is rebellion and rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. Feminism is not merely a different opinion. It is outright rebellion against God.

In the interview, I noted her social justice mixed with mysticism:

"
RHE: The one that surprised me the most was anointing of the sick. I used to think such a practice involved superstition and false hope, but that was before I learned the difference between curing and healing. We may not be able to cure what ails our friends and neighbors, but as Christians we are called to the work of healing—of entering into one another’s pain, anointing it as holy, and sticking around no matter the outcome. An anointing is an acknowledgement. In a culture of cure-alls and quick fixes, the sacrament of anointing the suffering is a powerful, countercultural gift the church offers the world."

Sounds like Teresa of Calcutta's mystical Roman gnosticism:

Mother Teresa believed that there is spiritual value in suffering. Once, when tending to a patient dying of cancer, she said "You are suffering like Christ on the cross. So Jesus must be kissing you." (Christoper Hitchens - The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice, p. 41).

"RHE: Every Sunday morning, I stand in my Episcopal church and join in a chorus of voices publicly affirming the Apostle’s Creed. Together, we declare that there is a good and almighty God who is the creative force behind all things seen and unseen; that this God is One, yet exists as three persons; that God loved the world enough to become flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived, taught, fed, healed and suffered among us as both fully God and fully human; that Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born to Mary; that he was crucified on a Roman cross and buried in the ground; that after three days dead, Jesus came back to life; that he ascended into heaven and reigns with God; that he will return to bring justice and restoration to our broken world; that God continues to work through the Holy Spirit, the church, and God’s people; that forgiveness is possible, resurrection is possible, and eternal life is possible."

God "is a creative force"?
Jesus will return to bring justice and restoration to our broken world?
Forgiveness, resurrection, and eternal life is "possible"??
Wow this isn't even close to the Apostles' Creed. This is Roman Catholic liberation theology. Is this what she defines as the dreed?

Here's the actual creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
    the Maker of heaven and earth,
    and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
    born of the virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
    the holy catholic church;
    the communion of saints;
    the forgiveness of sins;
    the resurrection of the body;
    and the life everlasting.

What you believe about the Beginning will affect how you believe about the rest of Scripture. Apostasize from the Truth of Creation Week, and you WILL apostasize in other areas. "Hath God Said?" is the satanic attack upon God Himself. John Piper and Tim Keller are examples of this denial of Genesis as it is written, and now accept sodomy as a legitimate.

More quotes by Evans, which demonstrate her hatred for Truth:

“You can't get too far into the Gospels without noticing that Jesus made a pretty lousy apologist.”

“My interpretation can only be as inerrant as I am, and that's good to keep in mind.”
― Rachel Held EvansEvolving in Monkey Town: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask the Questions

“It seems that a whole lot of people, both Christians and non-Christians, are under the impression that you can’t be a Christian and vote for a Democrat, you can’t be a Christian and believe in evolution, you can’t be a Christian and be gay, you can’t be a Christian and have questions about the Bible, you can’t be a Christian and be tolerant of other religions, you can’t be a Christian and be a feminist, you can’t be a Christian and drink or smoke, you can’t be a Christian and read the New York Times, you can’t be a Christian and support gay rights, you can’t be a Christian and get depressed, you can’t be a Christian and doubt. In fact, I am convinced that what drives most people away from Christianity is not the cost of discipleship but rather the cost of false fundamentals. False fundamentals make it impossible for faith to adapt to change. The longer the list of requirements and contingencies and prerequisites, the more vulnerable faith becomes to shifting environments and the more likely it is to fade slowly into extinction. When the gospel gets all entangled with extras, dangerous ultimatums threaten to take it down with them. The yoke gets too heavy and we stumble beneath it.”

Actually Evans is placing commandments into a false category of personal preferences, to her own doom:

2Co 11:4  For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

1Co 5:11  But now I am writing to  you NOT TO ASSOCIATE  with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler--not even to eat with such a one.

1Jn 1:6  If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

Mat 4:4  But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

2Ti 2:19  But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity."

 1Jo 2:4  Whoever says "I know Him" but does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5  but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6  whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

1Co 6:9  Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10  nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11  And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Psa 26:4 I do not sit with deceitful men, Nor will I go with pretenders.

2Co 10:5  We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

2Jo 1:9  Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.10  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11  for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Eph 5:6  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Eph 5:7  Therefore do not be partakers with them;
Eph 5:8  for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
Eph 5:9  (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
Eph 5:10  trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Eph 5:11  Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;
Eph 5:12  for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

2Co 6:14  Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
2Co 6:15  Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
2Co 6:16  Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
2Co 6:17  "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you.
2Co 6:18  "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty.

Rom 16:17  Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances
contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.18  For such men
are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering
speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

What kind of "good news" is the "gospel" of Evans if she happily embraces all those who are outside of Christ, those who are in rebellion against God earning eternal punishment in Hell? This is the face of hatred of another's soul as well as the Truth of the Gospel.

Good post - feminism is rampant among many who profess Christ. RHE is not a Christian according to the biblical standards found in God's word. May God have mercy on her soul, may He shut down all false teachers/ministries that lead multitudes astray.
